Service Overview

S&J Pick Up Co. provides weekly curbside garbage and recycling pickup services for cottage and rural communities within the RM of Alexander and the RM of Lac du Bonnet.

 

Our goal is to offer a reliable, affordable, and convenient alternative to self-hauling while supporting clean and organized communities.

Pickup Schedule & Set-Out Requirements

Pickup is provided once per week on the scheduled service day assigned to your area. Pickup times may vary depending on route volume, road conditions, and weather. To receive service, garbage and recycling must be placed curbside or at your designated pickup location and must be easily accessible. Weekly service is provided whether your waste is out or not, as routes are built and operated based on area demand.

Bagging, Bins & Wildlife

To ensure safe and efficient collection, all garbage must be sealed in black garbage bags and placed inside a secure bin. Recycling must be placed in clear or blue recycling bags and tied securely. Wildlife is common in cottage country, and customers are responsible for ensuring waste is properly secured to prevent animals from tearing into garbage and creating mess. Loose or unbagged waste will not be collected.

Accepted Materials

This service is intended for standard household garbage and recycling only. Recycling generally includes common items such as cardboard, paper, plastic containers, glass bottles and jars, and metal cans. Items not accepted through weekly service include construction or renovation debris, appliances, furniture, hazardous materials (including paint, chemicals, propane tanks or fuel), tires, batteries, and scrap metal. 

Garbage Volume & Overflow

Weekly service is designed for typical household waste volumes. Overflow garbage may not be collected if it exceeds safe handling limits, is not properly bagged, or is placed loosely beside the bin. Customers with recurring excess waste may be required to make alternate arrangements to ensure the route remains efficient and affordable for all participating households. There is no set limit on recycling, and we encourage residents to recycle as much as possible.

Service Interruptions

S&J Pick Up Co. operates year-round; however, service may be delayed or postponed due to severe weather, unsafe road conditions, or transfer station/landfill closures. Missed pickups will not be refunded or credited. If waste is not set out properly or is not accessible at the time of pickup, service will resume on the next scheduled pickup day.

Annual Membership Terms

Annual service is provided for 50 pickup weeks per year. Two weeks are reserved annually for holiday/vacation/family time, and notice will be provided well in advance. We appreciate our customers and believe that planned downtime helps ensure we can continue delivering consistent, high-quality service throughout the year.
